Xingquan Zhu is a Professor at Florida Atlantic University, USA, and a Fellow of the IEEE. He has been part of the ICDM community as an author since 2004. He has also served the ICDM community as Finance Chair (2010), Tutorial Co-Chair (2013), and Program Committee Co-Chair (2022).
In 2022, Professor Zhu worked as the PC Co-Chair for ICDM 2022, the first face-to-face meeting after the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite all challenges imposed by the epidemic, he worked diligently with general co-chairs and other chairs and made ICDM 2022 one of the most successful meetings in the ICDM conference series. He was the main driving force for all major activities of the conference. The NSF project for which he was the PI, also sponsored 46 students to attend ICDM 2022 in Orlando, Florida.
Another major contribution Professor Zhu has made to the ICDM community is that he took the initiative in establishing the IEEE ICDM Tao Li award in 2017 and has served as the Tao Li Award Chair since then to select world most talented earlier career data miners as the award winners. The award was to honor Professor Tao Li′s life and accomplishment, and reward excellent early career researchers. Since its establishment, it is now regarded as one of the most prestigious awards for early career data mining researchers.
Professor Zhu serves the broader data mining community as well. He is a steering committee member of the Scientific and Statistical Database Management (SSDBM). He is an Associate Editor of ACM Transactions on Knowledge Discovery from Data (TKDD), and served as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Data and Knowledge Engineering (TKDE) and Knowledge and Information Systems (KAIS).
Professor Zhu has also made significant research contributions in big data analytics and knowledge discovery from networked data. He has published over 300 research papers, including seven Best Paper and Best Student Paper Awards, with an h-index of 65 at Google Scholar. Since 2004, he has published 27 papers in the ICDM proceedings, and received the ICDM-2020 Best Student Paper Award. He has supervised 10 PhD students to completion.
